Welding of Advanced High Strength Steels for Automotive Application

The introduction of advanced high strength steels (AHSSs) to automotive design provides an opportunity to improve vehicle collision energy management and passenger safety, while maintaining or reducing vehicle weight, which in turn improves fuel consumption efficiency. Here are some example of project in this area in my research group:

  • Liquid metal embrittlement-free welds of Zn-coated twinning induced plasticity steels
  • Supercritical area and critical nugget diameter for liquid metal embrittlement of Zn-coated twining induced plasticity steels
  • A novel and simple technique for development of dual phase steels with excellent ductility
  • Correlation of Tensile Properties and Strain Hardening Behavior with Martensite Volume Fraction in Dual-Phase Steels
  • Examination of phase transformation kinetics during step quenching of dual phase steels
  • Microstructure, Tensile Properties and Work Hardening Behavior of GTA-Welded Dual-Phase Steels
